Sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage,

Just literally 20 seconds of just embarrassing bravery,

And I promise you

Something great will come of it.

~Matt Damon as Benjamin Mee

I saw this quote on Stephanie Saye's blog and loved it immediately. Her May 18 story about using it to give her son courage is well worth reading…

Inspired by my latest blog entry, writer Ann Stanley has already put "20 seconds of insane courage" to good use this week. Not only did it help her muster up the kahunas to speak confidently at a writer's conference, but she's adopting it as her new "mantra" in life. Way to go, Ann, and know that you are in good company. I'll definitely be working this mantra tonight when I speak at a local book club, which will also have a reporter and photographer in attendance. 20 seconds of insane courage here I come!

  1. GivE em hell. I love it. I used the mantra before I called and declined the job.

    • I gave ‘em hell – and they loved it! Replied to you on your blog about declining the job offer …

  2. Hey Stephanie!! I am dropping by to respond to the last comment you left on my blog, which I loved!! (My blog is not letting me continue conversations in strands–gotta fix a setting but I am too lazy!)

I especially love the last thing you say every night to your kids–about how God loves them no matter what!

And I totally get what you’re saying as far as the difficult path you’ve followed back to your now-comfortable spiritual home–and am overjoyed to hear how prominent and positive of a role faith plays in your life.

My path seems like a circuitous and long one, but I will get there. Big smile at you.

And I love the concept of 20 seconds of courage!!

    xoxo

    • There you go! That’s how I got my agent, too, but at the time I didn’t know I was using insane courage. I was just young and naive. :)

      • Before I read your post I thought I was just a hard headed guy who doesn’t learn… but i guess its like what Paulo Coelho said… if you really want something, the universe will conspire in your favor… I pushed my self and here I am… I’m still in the process of finding an agent though, eventually i’ll find one.
Best of wishes for you and your work :)
